Be SMART

Formulate your goals realistically

The first step to change your diet is the most important. Write down which personal goals you want to set yourself. The SMART rule will help. For example, lots of people want to eat a more balanced diet by never having chocolate again. Clearly, goals like these are unrealistic.

Learn to set realistic goals and milestones and be happy about your first victories.

Formulate your goals correctly

S – Specific: Goals have to be formulated clearly (‘”I drink unsweetened drinks'”)

M – Goals have to be measurable (‘”I drink 5 glasses of tap water a day'”)

A – Achievable: Goals have to be accepted (is completely abstaining from sweets really realistic?)

R – Realistic: Goals have to be realistic (at first 5 x 200 ml glasses, then 5 x 300 ml glasses),

T – Time-based: Goals should have a clear time span (in the first 2 weeks, a 200 ml glass 5 times a day, from the third week a 300 ml glass 5 times a day)

Goals should always be positive – ‘”I’ m going to eat 1 portion of fish a week'” or ‘”I’ m going to cook from scratch twice a week and take a portion to work'”.
